About Ernest Zarra

Ernest J. Zarra, III, Ph.D., holds five earned degrees, including the Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, in Teaching and Learning Theory. Ernie has been a teacher and education professor for over 42 years, where he has worked with Christian and public school students, teachers, and parents. He has retired from full-time classroom teaching and continues to build on the relationships developed throughout his career, by maintaining a vibrant online presence.
Ernie is a former Christian College First Team All-American soccer player, high school and club soccer coach, former teacher of the year for a prestigious California public school district, and was awarded the top student in graduate education from the California State University at Bakersfield, California.
Dr. Zarra has served as professional development leader for the largest high school district in California, where he designed and presenter on education topics relevant to both local and national audiences. His presentation experiences include national conference speaker at the Association for Curriculum and Design (ASCD), The National Council for Social Studies (NCSS), and he has been interviewed by national and international media—including multiple media outlets in the United States and Germany (Funk Radio).

Out of his concern for a culture heading in the wrong direction, Dr. Zarra has written seventeen books, and is author of approximately two dozen journal articles and several Op-Eds. His incisive writings have appeared in RealClear Education, The National Association of Scholars, of which he is a member, Cosmopolitan Magazine UK, and reviews of his books have appeared in the Daily Wire, as well as peer-reviewed professional journals of education. Dr. Zarra’s book The Wrong Direction for Today’s Schools, was a national book award winner for Choice Journal.

Ernie is considered as an expert on Teacher-Student relationships, contemporary American culture and world views, teacher education methods and classroom management, avoiding teacher burnout, and the differences between public and private school education models in America. His easy-going, common sense approach can speak to academics and general public audiences alike. He still holds teaching credentials in the states of California and New Jersey.

Originally from New Jersey, he and his wife Suzi, also a former California public school teacher, live in Washington State and enjoy a variety of activities, including finding energy to keep up with their two grandchildren. They are both Christian college graduates and are active members of their local community.
